On Sunday October 4, at an informal backyard garden party hosted by the American Australian Association, at the home of the Consul General of Australia based in Brentwood, California, Songsalive! president, Gilli Moon, met Julia Gillard, Australia's Deputy Prime Minister.

It was a casual affair, but everyone was suited up and Gilli wore her party frock. In their conversation, Gilli spoke about Songsalive! and how it has developed from Sydney Australia, into the largest international non-profit organization for songwriters and composers worldwide, now with its second base in Los Angeles. "The international focus of the organization", Gilli revealed to Julia, "is to be a door stop for Australian songwriters and composers when coming to America, as well as creating synergy and collaboration between Australian and American songwriters and composers."

Julia seemed impressed with the success of Songsalive!'s development and expansion and expressed her thanks for doing something not only worthwhile for Aussie artists, but contributing fruitful relationships between the two countries, (a primary focus of her trip to Los Angeles.)

Gilli also gave Julia a copy of her extraOrdinary life CD. "Oh Good", Julia said. "I'll have something to play in the car while I'm here!"

SKILLZ cd comes to life

As you may know already, J.Walker and I released our joint album together SKILLZ earlier this year, and it has been very opportunistic already. We had a launch performance at Downtown On Ice, Pershing Square early January, to tons of kids and more coming. Since then we have performed at a school, and have been selling the CD on our website www.skillzcd.com and iTunes. This album is a cross between hip hop and pop, using J's rap and spoken word, and my contemporary music production and voice. We're very excited with the developments of this project for youth.

gilli moon writes the music for new Musical, MATREYA, and the first show is performed at the Mint , Los Angeles. "Matreya", a rock opera, is an original musical play written by Jayne DeMente, founder & director of Women's Heritage Project (a grassroots program to fund women's research) and local rock star, Gilli Moon (founder of Warrior Girl Music).  This event benefits "women in the arts" for both non profit projects.

Gilli's 3 songs "Secret of My Heart", "Bliss" and "A Little Bit Better" (all co-written with the talented Tom DeLuca) have been placed in Nickelodeon's show "South of Nowhere".

 

 

gilli moon produced (with Gaia Rocks) Females On Fire, the Los Angeles Women's Music Festival  in Los Angeles, attracting 3000 people, on Saturday 25th, August 2007 and it was a huge success!   Celebrating women in music and the men and women who love them, Females On Fire - The Los Angeles Women's Music Festival, featured more than 100 artists and performers from around the world, including female headline acts and an eclectic array of female singer/songwriters and female-fronted bands representing all styles and genres of music. Also included were poets and spoken word artists, comedians, as well as vendor and exhibitor booths, children's activities, workshops, vegan and organic food vendors, healing arts, pet adoptions and more. One of the most beautiful gifts that i received whilst in Seattle in November, was a Minarik Guitar. www.minarikguitars.com. I was in the exhibition room at the Rockrgrl Conference and Bill Minarik came over and was enchanted that I was there. He had been a long time fan. He literally handed me an endorsement and asked me to choose an electric guitar. I naturally chose the most beautiful one, a honeyburst Minarik GODDESS that is 1 out of only 25 special edition honeybursts in the world, (4 were left handed) and they never will be made again. Ecstatic. As you all know, my first instrument is the piano,.. but for the last 2 years I've been writing a lot on the guitar, and I play Evolution on the acoustic. I also love to produce guitars in the studio and it's personally my favorite instrument to record, even over the piano and keyboards. I've always longed to incorporate electric guitar playing into my life and my live show. I think acoustics are too cumbersome for me and i want to experiment with the melodics of an electric that i have come to know and love so well when producing in the studio. so... it's time to embrace this dream! I am very thankful to Minarik Guitars, and Bill especially, and I hope to promote them fully and enlighten guitarists about these wonderful guitars.
