Alpha Cat

CD I

In the vein of the old New York City sounds of Patti Smith, Velvet Underground, Television - Alpha Cat’s approach to music shows more depth of thought than many of the teenage hucksters out there right now. Lyrically, the songs are rich in images, as the various stories unfold and play out...the vocals of Elizabeth McCullough, lazily cutting words like solid Patti Smith, or at times ethereal along the lines of Joni Mitchell or an acoustic Chrissy Hynde. Upon listening, it is apparent that the well from which Alpha Cat songs generally spring, is longtime photographer McCullough’s understanding of how equally both the absence and presence of light define the world we see. What else is clear is that this is a genuine exploration of the terms of emotional survival. www.thealphacat.com

Astra Kelly’s lyrics read rhythmically as poetry, speaking of emotional transformation and personal freedom. Performing many times armed only with an acoustic guitar, her delivery is an intensely powerful expression of equal parts joy and pain, balance and struggle.  Astra Kelly has toured extensively over the years as a solo performer or with other various projects. She has released three records on her own label, and is presently working on a fourth, this time with an established producer and engineer team.   www.astrakelly.com

Linda Geleris

CD I

Out of a very personal, emotional earthquake, rose the seedling of a dream that Linda Geleris had long thought was dead. After many years, she felt called upon to write songs, as she had done here and there throughout high school and college. With the sponsorship of TAXI co-founder Michael Lederer, to whom she had been introduced at a music seminar, Linda founded SongNet in September 1999 and in early 2002 named L.A. artist Jimi Yamagishi to head the organization while she returned to the recording studio to complete her first CD “The Trouble With Love.”  From Nov. 2002 to Jan. 2004, Linda studied songwriting with Grammy Nominated songstress Harriet Schock. The collection of songs written during this period, were tracked (recorded March 2004) and it’s all over but the singing.  Linda plans to release the new CD by the end of 2004.  Linda’s influences include Neil Young (Decade,) Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (So Far,) Joni Mitchell (Court and Spark, Blue,) Fleetwood Mac (Rumors,) The Doors and many others.  I’m sure that the Beatles figures somewhere in the ‘influence’ department as well.   www.lindageleris.com

 Penelope Torribio

CD I

Penelope has been called the American Edith Piaf and the female Jimmie Rogers for her ability to put stories into songs.  Whether it is a woman lamenting car troubles, as in Flat Tire Stick-shifting, Broken Transmission Blues, or a woman making wrong choices—again, as in Jumping from the Frying Pan, you know the songs comes from the experience of real situations.  Penelope’s songs can make you laugh, can make you think, and can make you want to dance.  Her lyrics are brilliantly delivered with a voice that lingers long after the last verse and chorus.  Whether singing songs with strong social commentary or her offbeat humor filled lyrics on love and humanity, each composition has a life all it’s own.  Penelope was named vocalist of the year by the California County Music Association for her clear straight forward sound. She writes country, folk, blues, and children’s music.  You can find her many albums available on her website and at any performance where we’re lucky enough to have Penelope on the bill.   www.penelopesongwriter.com

Wendy De Rosa

CD I

Savvy, strong, independent, full of life and inspiration, are the messages conveyed in the groove based, jazzy soul-folk music of Wendy De Rosa. She finds that catchy melody, creates that hook, and then you find you’re singing it all day long.  Wendy’s songs are beat driven as her timber voice soars melodies over rhythmic guitar playing.  She conveys an uplifting healing sound through her performance as a solo acoustic artist, yet takes a jazzier, fuller and funkier approach with her 4 piece band.  The addition of upright bass, drums and keys adds very movable, groovable power to her well-crafted songs.  Her sound spans genres of jazz, pop, rock, folk and even elements of hip hop.  As a former Colorado resident, Wendy co-female fronted her groove rock band Mosaic w/ Jessica Goodkin.  During her time in Colorado, Wendy’s abundance of success landed her on stage w/ artist such as Merl Saunders, Digital Underground (Tupac Shakur fame), Particle, Global Funk Council, Gilby Clark (Guns n’ Roses) and Eric Singer (KISS), Melissa Ferrick, Patrice Pike, Libby Kirkpatrick, Liza (and the Soulstars), Wendy Woo, and more. As a solo artist she shared stages with artists such as New Monsoon and members of the Sam Kininger Band (saxophonist w/ Soulive), Dan Bern, Jen Chapin.  Wendy is an independent artist now based out of the Bay Area and tours major markets such as NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Austin, all over Colorado and beyond.  Wendy is currently working on a new cd and is recording.  www.wendyderosa.com
