about

Woman, gilli moon's third solo album released on her Warrior Girl Music label, encompasses the emotions, passions and experiences of a young woman growing up, dealing with relationships and becoming self empowered as an individual. Woman touches on female sensuality, sexuality, openness and honesty. Life is about love of others and love of self, and gilli sends these messages through her music, lyrics and album art. The 2003 album is re-released in 2005 as part of the 3 disc pack the evolution of gilli moon.

While the album is organic in approach like her previous CD temperamental angel, keeping the raw rock band style in recording, it also includes some electronic drum 'n bass and loops. More self-penned pop songs than ever, and with singles, “Woman” (plus music video), "Damaged or Broken", "Tiny Diamonds", "Someone To Love" (featured on Paul Mitchell's Salon Sounds alongside Norah Jones). "Organic" and gill's sultry and delicious cover version of INXS' "Need You Tonight".  As producer, gilli moon teamed up with Matt Thorne (Trapt/Kate Ceberano) and Ken Moore in Los Angeles. The album features Gordie Germaine on guitar, Jeffrey Dean on bass, Evan Beigel on keyboards, Ric Craig on electronic drums and  Brian Burwell on drums. Guest vocalists include Cindy Alter (South Africa, Clout band member) and Brazilian superstar Badi Assad.

"The songwriting is still intimate and drawing from personal anecdotes about my own life living around the world," she says. "The last record was dealing with a lot of angst, some anger and frustrations, a bit like a rebellious teenager, whereas the new album will be like a coming-of-age piece, showing strength and convictions about life and love.

"When i began to write the songs for Woman i had to wonder why... what was my purpose in expression in this project? for most know that i am concept driven, i needed the project to be oriented around a theme, a concept, a meaning and agenda. I had grown up this time. the last 2 or 3 years had been a hurting time, filled with loneliness and sadness, broken relationship and lost soul mate. hurt, anger... that was what the CD before, temperamental angel, personified.

"But i knew that was temporary and that i would no longer remain the rebellious teenager. i need to empower myself, embark on a new journey as an artist, as a woman, and be open to the possibilities.

"i wrote a book, a great book that inspires artists of all genres to get out there and make it happen for themselves. but i needed some strength for me, for my journey... and so was borne in the studio, in january through march 2002, i produced the album WOMAN."

REMEDY MAGAZINE Townsville Australia - ALBUM REVIEW
From the first time I listened to this album I was hooked. I have listened to it so many times I have driven everyone in the house mad. Gilli sings like an angel with the strength of an opera diva. This CD features a fabulous cover of INXS “Need You Tonight” as an ode to Michael Hutchence. The album oozes self empowerment with titles like “I’m Calling You” and “I Think Of Him”.

"Among the emerging post-bubblegum backlash of down-to-earth, in-your-face female singer/songwriters is attitudinal Aussie gilli moon. Her lyrics are intensely personal, her melodies either guitar-driven or vocally driven... One gets the feeling that the process of creating the album was as much a cathartic process as a creative one. The results are engaging and thought provoking and very easy to identify with."

your "woman" is in my hands... caressing my ears... melting and scattering  me across the horizon.  ii hope you will understand and not be offended if ii remain speechless.  words are very unnecessary. you and ii don't need to be "propped up" in  that manner anymore. through my silence, ii reveal to you... everything.  with all love, tenderness, humility and respect

“I will say that women have come to a stage where we are taking a LOT on. We want both career and family, and we lead very stressful lives. What we need, however, is understanding, from men and from society. We can all do this together. Women need to be acknowledged for their new strength, but at the same time, their beauty. Yes we are complex, but I'm also ready to support a man who finds it hard relating to women these days. I write songs so that we are understood and can be loved for who we are. In return we have so much love to give.” (from gilli moon's interview for the Jeff Buckley Website)

"I have loved deeply
And given more than enough...
Will I love again?
Tell me, is it true?
That I will find my soul mate?
I am a woman and I am ready to love again." - gilli moon

WOMAN:
being comfortable
in my own skin
\ empowerment \
two halves of the same whole... relationships are possible \ finding myself
\ inner strength
yet inner fragility \
i'm only trying to grow up \ kiss me i'm ready...
i'm all... grown up now!
- gilli moon
